WHEN round one of this year's Business Times Corporate Golf League teed off on Sentosa Golf Club's Tanjong Course this week, it had all the right ingredients to ensure another exciting and successful annual event. These included perfect weather, great golf, a tight leaderboard, close networking opportunities and excellent Sentosa hospitality.
Team Citi, who finished runners-up in the League last year, scored 105 points to take the overall lead over SPH Sultans of Swing (104) and defending champions Team SunMoon (103). Emerio finished in fourth place with 102, three ahead of Tat Hong who finished fifth. Rounding out the top 10 are DBS Vickers (98), Bank of Singapore (OCBC - 96), Park Hotel Group (95), Audi quattro (94) and Team Boustead (94). And, with five rounds still to go, it's already proving to be a close race with only 11 points separating the top 10 teams.
Team Citi captain Chris Chew admits he was a little surprised by the result but was pleased with his players who all played to their handicaps. "The rule changes played to our favour today so we're not complaining. Martin was a bit of a big gun for us today, scoring two birdies."
