Survival tactics to stay in the game
IT'S an understatement to say that the past few months of the coronavirus pandemic have sent both big and small businesses into a tail spin, with many closing down even as others scramble to stay one step ahead of the economic grim reaper. But not all is lost. For some independent businesses, being nimble enough to adapt, innovate and spot new opportunities has helped them stay in the game, and even create new revenue streams in the process. In Friday's issue of Weekend Magazine, several companies in food and beverage (F&B), design, art and travel share some survival tactics that have helped them stay afloat through this tough period.
If tough times are getting you down, don't let it. Deal with it instead, says Bjorn Lee, CEO of MindFi.co, a mental well-being company who created an app to make meditation more accessible to a wider audience.
Meanwhile, here's a chance to taste the skills of three pastry chefs who struck out on their own after circuit breaker measures put a stop to dining in restaurants. Using skills honed in Michelin-starred restaurants, they're offering simpler fare in the form of cake, cookies and DIY kits but rest assured the taste is fine dining all the way.
If you're thinking of working from home on a more permanent basis, then it's time to look at reconfiguring your living space to accomodate. To do that we went to an expert - an architect who turned his own home into a separate office and personal abode, with stunning effect.
Finally, it's Father's Day weekend, so check out our selection of gift ideas for the best man in your life. For the sartorially-inclined, we also throw in some tips for dressing Dad in the style of celebrity fathers as diverse as Serge Gainsbourg and Bob Marley.
