Bukit Sembawang’s chief operating officer resigns
BUKIT Sembawang Estates ’ chief operating officer (COO) Charles Chow has resigned from his role to pursue other career opportunities, the company said on Thursday (Feb 2). His last day is Feb 10.
Chow was appointed to his role on Feb 1, 2021 to lead and oversee the day-to-day operations of its business.
He has more than 20 years of experience in project management and property development, according to the company.
News of Chow’s resignation comes five months after Bukit Sembawang named a new chief executive officer (CEO) Chng Kiong Huat in September 2022. Chng assumed the CEO role in October.
Speaking to The Business Times, Chow said his tenure as Bukit Sembawang’s COO was an “achievement” – he joined the group two years ago, as it searched for a new CEO.
Now that Chng is on board and the group has “stabilised”, he reckons it is time to embark on something new.

For Chow, this means helping out at his wife’s construction business, a small-scale company that builds individual landed homes and handles interior design work. “Along the way, should any other opportunities arise, I might reassess later on,” he said.
Still, Chow highlighted that he appreciates his time at Bukit Sembawang, where he “learnt a lot” about people management as well as the corporate scope of work.
“This was eye-opening because I previously predominantly handled high-rise residential developments,” said Chow. One of his earlier projects, for instance, was the residential skyscraper Australia 108 in Melbourne. It is now the country’s tallest building by roof height and the second-tallest building by full height.
“(Bukit Sembawang) is the only company that mass develops landed homes, and that was a new segment for me to gain knowledge.” On his leaving, Chow said: “The company will definitely continue to prosper in the future.”
“The board would like to express its appreciation to Mr Charles Chow for his past services and contributions to the company during his tenure as chief operating officer,” said Bukit Sembawang.
The company kicked off 2023 by selling its new landed housing project Pollen Collection, moving four units since the opening of its show house last October.
Shares of Bukit Sembawang were up 1.5 per cent or S$0.07 to S$4.61 as at 11.38 am on Thursday.
