THE National University of Singapore (NUS) is welcoming Sea Group founder, chairman and chief executive officer Forrest Li as a member of its board of trustees.

The 43-year-old entrepreneur will begin his term on April 1 along with fellow newly appointed member Sudha Nair, executive director of family violence specialist centre PAVE.

Mr Li is recognised for building up Internet giant Sea Group. The New York-listed firm has three businesses - digital entertainment arm Garena, e-commerce platform Shopee and fintech unit SeaMoney. Last November, he was named Businessman of the Year at the 35th Singapore Business Awards.

"We are delighted to welcome Sudha and Forrest to our Board. With their rich experience and expertise, they will bring relevant insights as we continue to shape bold and pioneering initiatives at NUS," said Hsieh Fu Hua, chairman of the NUS Board.

As part of planned board renewals, Michael Lien and Abdullah Tarmugi will step down from the board on March 31. Mr Lien is the executive chairman of Wah Hin & Company, while Mr Tarmugi is a permanent member of the Presidential Council for Minority Rights and a former Speaker of Parliament.

"We also extend our deepest appreciation to Michael and Abdullah for their many contributions to NUS. Both have served us very well and provided wise guidance that helped chart the university's growth and transformation. We thank them for their dedicated service," Mr Hsieh added.
