We now know we can work from home, but are we ready to be fired from home too?

BY now, you're most likely to have heard, even if vaguely, about the CEO of an American company who fired 900 of his employees over Zoom.

At one shot. In the span of a literal three-minute spiel. Comparisons were drawn to a scene from the show "Silicon Valley", but frankly, nothing of the kind of stunt that Better.com founder and CEO Vishal Garg pulled on roughly 9 per cent of his company has been seen or heard of until this year, and in this age.

There was no warning or indication to any of the hundreds of employees who were dismissed on the spot ahead of those three minutes either. Several were quoted in follow-up media reports saying they thought they were tuning into another of Garg's company town halls, until they discovered they were horribly wrong in that assumption. Others claimed they had just been promoted or were given strong performance reviews.
