IMD's latest World Talent Report is another sharp reminder that Singapore needs to do more to develop its local talent pool, even as it continues to attract foreign high-skilled labour, observers say. The annual report, released on Tuesday, ranked Singapore 16th in the world in terms of talent competitiveness - below countries such as Denmark, Malaysia, and Canada, but higher than say Hong Kong, the UK, and Japan (view infographic).
In response to BT's report on IMD's rankings, the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and the Workforce Development Agency (WDA) jointly said on Friday that skills and human capital development have always been central to Singapore's success, and that these efforts continue to be top priorities for the government.
