Death, metal and all that jazz
Jah Wobble unleashes his all; Mastodon's Emperor has a dark side; and Kronos's turntable also turns heads
*Jah Wobble's Invaders of the Heart - Everything is No-Thing
English bass player Jah Wobble (real name John Joseph Wardle, formerly of punk rock band Public Image Ltd) makes music that defies specific categorisation.
Part-jazz, part-funk, part-dub, part New Age - perhaps, the best description for what emanates from his fertile musical imagination is that it is wordly music with freeform jazz as its guiding imperative. On Everything is No-Thing, Wobble unleashes all his creativity, melding many forms of musical mayhem to produce one of his finest albums since his Invaders of the Heart debut Without Judgement in 1990. Album opener Cosmic Blueprint sets the tone for what is to come, Wobble's throbbing bass providing the underlying base for an Afro-funk beat that will have heads nodding and feet tapping.
