SPH Media Trust (SMT) on Monday (Feb 7) appointed Teo Lay Lim as SPH Media Group's new chief executive officer, with effect from Mar 1.

SMT is the holding company of SPH Media Group.

Prior to joining SPH Media Group, Teo, 58, held various leadership positions at Accenture for over 30 years, with the most recent being the technology firm's Singapore chairman - a role she stepped down from on Aug 31, 2021.

Her previous roles at Accenture included geographic unit managing director (South-east Asia) from 2011-2020, managing director (Asean) from 2011-2012 and country managing director (Singapore) from 2007-2020.

Teo, who graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration from the National University of Singapore, is also credited for starting the company's customer relationship management practice in 2000, as well as its analytics and sustainability services in 2008.

Currently, she serves as a member on the Future Economy Council, where she co-chairs the Modern Services sub-committee and chairs the Polytechnic & ITE Quality Assurance Framework External Review Panel for the Ministry of Education.

She is also an independent director and executive committee member of UOB, and serves on the boards of SPH Media Trust, Workforce Singapore, the Singapore Accountancy Commission and the Institute for Human Resources Professionals.

Teo will take over from SPH Media Group interim CEO Patrick Daniel, who helmed the media business since its restructuring was announced in May 2021.

In a press statement on Monday, SMT chairman Khaw Boon Wan thanked Daniel for his contributions as interim CEO. "He has led the restructuring of the SPH media business under the new not-for-profit economic structure, and enabled the newsrooms to chart a bolder digital transformation journey," he said.

Khaw also welcomed Teo's wealth of experience and acute sense of creating opportunities for commercial growth.

"Most importantly, she possesses a passion for building and transforming people and organisations for the long-term. The group looks forward to working closely with Lay Lim on strategies to underscore its vision and mission to produce trusted quality journalism," he added.

On her new appointment, Teo said: "I am honoured to be given the opportunity to lead the SPH Media Group as CEO during these exciting times. As we work to keep pace with a very dynamic media landscape, I will be working closely with my colleagues in our transformation journey to create trusted products for our always connected audiences."
