SIA Engineering, Air India ink MOU to explore MRO collaboration opportunities
[SINGAPORE] SIA Engineering and Air India on Friday (Jul 3) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to explore opportunities to collaborate in maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) aspects.
This move aims to support the development of India as a global aviation MRO hub, said a statement.
It could include the “potential formation” of an MRO joint venture in India, said SIA Engineering, serving the rising needs of the Indian and regional aviation markets.
Under the venture, the group will leverage its MRO and technical expertise, as well as Air India’s airline operations network, to jointly develop a world-class MRO ecosystem in India.
In May 2024, SIA Engineering was appointed as Air India’s base maintenance strategic partner for the development of the airline’s base management facilities in Bangalore, India.
Chin Yau Seng, chief executive officer of SIA Engineering, said the group aims to leverage its technical expertise to jointly develop an MRO partnership that will play an integral role in Air India’s pursuit of operational excellence and potentially serve customers both within and outside the country.
“This initiative goes beyond fleet support; it is about realising India’s vast MRO potential,” he added.
Shares of SIA Engineering closed 0.3 per cent or S$0.01 higher at S$3.47 on Friday before the news.
