ST Engineering secures 5-year maintenance contract with Japan Airlines
THE commercial aerospace business of ST Engineering has secured a 5-year maintenance-by-the-hour (MBTH) contract with Japan Airlines (JAL).
In a press statement on Thursday (Oct 28), ST Engineering said it will provide component MBTH to JAL's Boeing 787 fleet from September 2021, adding on to its current component MBTH contract for JAL's Boeing 737-800 fleet.
"Through this latest partnership, we will not only widen our scope of service for Japan Airlines, but also deepen our level of service by employing predictive maintenance capabilities to enable better maintenance scheduling and reduction of aircraft downtime, so that Japan Airlines can extract optimal value from their assets," said Jeffrey Lam, commercial aerospace president, ST Engineering, in the statement.
A new on-wing component health and reliability management programme will be introduced as part of JAL's customised solution. In-house developed software will provide diagnostics and prescriptive advice through detection of anomalies and predicting components' remaining lifespan.
"I believe ST Engineering and Japan Airlines will enhance their partnership through this latest agreement, which includes collaborations on predictive maintenance," said Yukio Nakagawa, executive officer, procurement, JAL.
Shares of ST Engineering closed down 1.03 per cent or S$0.04 at S$3.85 on Thursday.
