GAMING company Razer has launched a US$50 million fund to invest in startups working on environmental and sustainability issues. The fund, called the Razer Green Fund, will be managed by Razer's corporate ventures arm zVentures.
Razer will invest in seed and Series A funding rounds for startups globally, with average ticket sizes typically ranging from US$100,000 to US$1 million. These investments aim to focus on renewable energy, carbon issues and plastics management.
The company has completed a seed investment into The Nurturing Co, a sustainable consumer products startup. As part of a partnership, the startup will supply bamboo toilet paper, under sustainable toilet paper brand BAMBOOLOO, to some of Razer's global offices, including the upcoming South-east Asian headquarters in Singapore.
Bamboo is fast-growing, and pulp from the plant requires 90 per cent less water and 70 per cent less carbon to produce when compared to wood pulp, Razer said.
In March, the group outlined a 10-year sustainability roadmap that included using 100 per cent renewable energy in its global offices by 2025 and achieving 100 per cent carbon neutrality by 2030.
