A FAIR tenancy committee has been formed, comprising business leaders of major retail landlords including CapitaLand and Frasers Property Retail, and tenant representatives.

The Fair Tenancy Industry Committee will ensure compliance to the new code of conduct that is set to become mandatory via legislation for all retail tenancies in Singapore. It will also conduct regular outreach to industry players, and provide the government with feedback and recommendations to enhance the code.

The committee is chaired by Max Loh, Singapore and Brunei managing partner at EY Singapore. There are 13 other members of the committee including Chris Chong, CapitaLand's managing director for retail; Frasers Property Retail chief executive Low Chee Wah; and Bugis Cube chairman Henry Mok.

Tenants are represented by Pure Senses founder Logan Wong, and Terence Yow, managing director at shoe retailer Enviably Me, among others. Mr Wong and Mr Yow are members of tenant lobby group Singapore Tenants United For Fairness (SGTUFF).

The committee had its first meeting on May 19, with Minister of State for Trade and Industry and Culture, Community and Youth Low Yen Ling.

Ms Low said in a statement that the government will "consider the interests of all stakeholders... in drafting the legislation that will make the code mandatory for all retail tenancies in Singapore".
