All nightlife establishments in Singapore will be suspended for two weeks from July 16 to July 30, said Finance Minister Lawrence Wong at a press conference on Friday.

The suspension will affect more than 400 businesses, which will be notified individually. Staff working in such premises will also have to undergo testing and adhere to safe management measures before they are allowed to re-open, said Mr Wong, who also co-chairs the multi-ministry taskforce on Covid-19.

Around 2,480 people - staff and patrons of the affected KTV joints identified via SafeEntry and TraceTogether data - have been placed under quarantine, with some testing positive for the virus.

Additionally, individuals who have visited the hotspots are to go for compulsory testing at a designated testing centre and self-isolate until they receive a negative test from their first polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test.

They will also be issued with self-test Antigen Rapid Test (ART) kits, which are to be administered on the seventh day from the last exposure, as well as a second PCR test on the 14th day.

These individuals are to limit their interactions with others for 14 days from their last exposure and only undertake essential activities during this period, said the taskforce in a press release.

The taskforce further advised all who have visited locations where nightlife establishments - including those that had operated as F&B outfits - or other similar establishments flagged out by the Singapore Police Force to purchase self-test ART kits and do self-tests regularly over the 14 days. These individuals will receive a "Health Risk Alert" via SMS.

Individuals who develop any acute respiratory infection symptoms, such as cough, runny nose, or fever should see their doctor immediately, he added.

This comes after a Covid-19 cluster was identified, linked to those who had visited the KTV outlets and nightclubs operating illegally.

Individuals who have recently visited such nightlife establishments now operating as F&B establishments, and/or interacted with social hostesses between June 29 and July 15 are to come forward for a free swab test, said the Ministry of Health in a press statement.
