Profindo wins in international SME category

It plans to recruit more professionals with an entrepreneurship mindset to expand into more value-added products.

Ms Fu says Profindo is constantly looking out for newer business opportunities that will not only enhance its portfolio but will also expand its horizons.

AN international SME, Profindo Pte Ltd, won the SME Overseas Sales/Turnover Excellence Award in the Singapore International 100 award category.

Established in 1998, Profindo is an international trading and ship chartering company, registered and based in Singapore. The company initially began trading cement in markets in South-east Asia but has since expanded its product range over the years and has attracted clients across Africa, India and Sri Lanka.

Over the years, it expanded into more commodities like petroleum coke and natural resources such as coal and nickel ore.

Being an SME, Profindo says that it can relate to both the SME 1000 and International 100 categories. "DP Info's rankings are important to us in three ways which are interconnected and are built on each other," says Ms Vonny Fu Li Fang, director of the company.

Market voices on:

"First is in bridging the SMEs and government especially the Ministry of Trade and Industry to show how government encourages and supports SMEs to grow to become bigger and internationalise. Second is to motivate and inspire other SMEs so that they can see how SME achievers are recognised and awarded. Third, to help SMEs to market and advertise their products and services as the rankings are recognised widely especially by esteemed bodies and government," says Ms Fu.

Over the years, Profindo has forged strong bonds with its customers and the company always strives to maintain the goodwill that it has developed with its existing trading partners while it seeks newer opportunities.

Currently, Profindo has a presence in Indonesia, Cambodia, and the Philippines through its associates. The company has a branch office in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

It charters in bulk ships ranging from ultramax to handy size tonnage as well as pneumatic cement carriers on time or voyage charter basis to carry its cargoes of bulk and bagged cement, coal, petroleum coke and other traded commodities.

Ms Fu says that to improve on its performance going forward, "the company plans to recruit more professionals with entrepreneurship thinking in order to expand into more value-added products to take the company to a higher turnover".

Asked how Profindo plans to grow its business going forward, Ms Fu says: "We are constantly looking out for newer business opportunities that will not only enhance our portfolio but will expand our horizons as well. We may enter into the venture capital business in developing countries where industries show growth potential."
