BRITISH Prime Minister Liz Truss’ first month in office has been a highly eventful one, and the 47-year-old has less than two years to implement her pro-business growth model to get the economy moving in order to give her a chance of winning the next general election.

In the meantime, she needs to vault over a deep chasm. Truss not only faces a seismic drop in the polls against the opposition Labour party, but garrulous cabinet ministers and numerous rebel Conservative MPs as well. Like it or not, she desperately needs them on her side to get any legislation passed in Parliament.

With a show of optimism and displaying a wide smile, Truss delivered a brave speech at the annual Conservative Party conference on Wednesday (Oct 5) to steady the rocky Tory ship. Her short and sharp speech emphasising that her three priorities for the sclerotic British economy were “growth, growth and growth” were applauded by party members.
