GE2020: Latest sample count results
Claudia Tan HS
THE Elections Department (ELD) will be announcing sample counts for each constituency at this year's General Election (GE) to give the public an early indication of the final polling results.
The sample count is to be carried out at the start of the counting at all counting centres across Singapore and will happen soon after the polls close. This year, they did so at 10pm. ELD had, for the first time, extended voting hours by two hours to "allow enough time for all voters to cast their votes" as "a small number" of polling stations continued to see long queues.
ELD introduced the announcement of sample counts in the General Election of 2015 to prevent unnecessary speculation and reliance on unofficial sources of information before all the votes are tallied and the final results are announced.
The numbers are said to be fairly indicative of the possible outcome for a constituency; sample counts typically have a confidence level of 95 per cent, plus or minus four percentage points.
The Business Times will be updating the latest sample count results here, as they are released by the ELD.
