Tan See Leng becomes Manpower Minister in Cabinet reshuffle
SECOND Minister for Manpower Tan See Leng will become Manpower Minister with effect from May 15, as current Manpower Minister Josephine Teo moves to helm the Ministry of Communications and Information instead, in the new Cabinet line-up announced on Friday.
Since being appointed as Second Minister, Dr Tan, 56, has been leading efforts to tackle Covid-19 in migrant worker dorms, said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at a virtual press conference announcing the changes. "Now he will take on the full range of responsibilities in MOM."
A healthcare industry veteran, Dr Tan entered politics in the 2020 General Election. He was the only new candidate to become a full minister after the election, as Minister in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) and Second Minister for Manpower and for Trade and Industry.
With this reshuffle, Dr Tan will no longer be a Minister in the PMO, but will retain his MTI portfolio. "This will help us connect the work of the two vital economic ministries, particularly on restructuring the economy and the workforce," said Mr Lee.
