Certis donates S$30,000 to help persons with disabilities realise their sporting ambitions

A NEW programme will encourage more persons with disabilities to pursue their sporting ambitions and lead active lives, with Certis donating S$30,000 to kick-start this initiative in partnership with the Singapore Disability Sports Council (SDSC).
Launched on Wednesday (Feb 23), the "Dare to Dream" initiative includes the "Certis Superheroes Challenge", involving over 80 Certis volunteers. Trained as para sports facilitators, they will engage persons with disabilities and match them to suitable sports.
In the sessions designed by SDSC, participants will be assessed on their fitness attributes, while a questionnaire will collect information about their lifestyle, personality and interests. Through this, SDSC will be able to collect statistical data for local para athlete development, and use this to improve the matching of persons with disabilities to suitable sports.
Speaking at the launch at the Singapore Sports Hub, Minister of State for Culture, Community and Youth Alvin Tan said that the disability sports ecosystem has grown stronger through the years through the hard work of different members of the community and stakeholders.
"The government will continue to facilitate partnerships and conversations to propel disability sports even further and help provide persons with disabilities with more opportunities to experience sports," said Tan, who is also Minister of State for Trade and Industry.

The initiative will also see Certis supporting the national goalball women's team, goalball being a team sport designed for athletes with vision impairment.
Certis' donation will enable the team to travel overseas to participate in competitions in preparation for the upcoming Asean Para Games 2022.
