New 735i blings out the best in BMW

BMW’s opulent new flagship is best enjoyed with a chauffeur. Just as well its target buyers can afford one

    • The imposing new BMW 735i is nearly 5.4 metres nose-to-tail.
    • The 735i is powered by a creamy, yet reasonably brawny engine. But on Singapore roads, it sometimes simply feels too big to be truly relaxing for the driver.

THIS is the BMW for the grandest of grand poobahs, so I had to show it to someone high above my station and well accustomed to being the boss, just to pick their brains. Naturally, that meant presenting it to my wife.

She oohed and aahed with approval over the 735i, especially when I clicked the button that made a rear door open electrically, and showed her the one to make it swing shut again, as if pushed by ghostly, servile hands.

“This is nice,” she cooed, settling into the sumptuous rear seating, before jabbing at the little touchscreen on the armrest to see what else the car could do. “Much nicer than the last 7 Series.”
