    ASIAN Americans backed Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in this year’s presidential election. Vice-President Harris received 54 per cent of their vote, according to exit polls.

    But the 39 per cent who supported Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, despite VP Harris’ South Asian background and efforts to attract voters of colour, reflect the decline of the Democratic Party’s hold over Asian American voters and the community’s shift to the political right.

    In fact, Harris lost seven points compared to Asian American Pacific Islanders’ support for Joe Biden in 2020.
