THE Washington Post is a liberal, Democratic-leaning newspaper whose editorial page has long criticised former president Donald Trump, and has warmly welcomed Vice-President Kamala Harris into the race for the White House.

So it came as a surprise when the Post’s editorial board slammed the Democratic presidential candidate over her newly announced economic agenda, which it characterised as “populist gimmicks”.

Harris had an “opportunity to get specific with voters about how a Harris presidency would manage an economy that many feel is not working well for them”, the board wrote last Friday (Aug 16). “Unfortunately, instead of delivering a substantial plan, she squandered the moment on populist gimmicks.”
