The US and China need a climate Marshall Plan
THE testy relationship between the US and China is going through one of its warm patches again.
After a series of “candid, constructive, and comprehensive” meetings in Beijing, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has singled out emerging-market debt and climate finance as the two areas where cooperation between Washington and Beijing would be most urgent and productive.
“The world deserves and expects its two largest economies to work together on these global problems and help find solutions,” she told a news conference last Saturday (Jul 8). US climate envoy John Kerry will travel to China for talks later this month.
