Will Biden ever get credit for his policies?

IN MANY ways, the American economy has recovered faster from the effects of the pandemic than other major developed countries. The latest US jobs report indicated that the economy added 209,000 jobs in June – the 30th consecutive month of employment growth – with unemployment falling to 3.6 per cent.

Inflation is lower than in most other industrialised nations and continues to fall. And there are signs that efforts by the Federal Reserve to tame it haven’t led to a recession, as some economists had feared. Soft landing, anyone?

Overall, 13 million jobs have been created since President Joe Biden entered office. That, the conventional wisdom suggests, should be good news to a president facing a re-election campaign. It should translate into higher public approval ratings, especially when one adds his foreign policy achievements.
