Oil, AI and a wobbly yen: JP Morgan’s Raisah Rasid on what investors should consider now
The US announced new strikes on Iran, crude briefly touched US$80 a barrel, South Korea fell into bear market territory mid-week and the yen hit a 40-year low against the dollar. That’s a lot happening in one week, and not all of it pointing in the same direction.
In this episode of Market Focus Weekly, a podcast by The Business Times, we speak with Raisah Rasid, global market strategist at JP Morgan Asset Management, for a conversation that moves quickly and covers a lot of ground without losing the thread. Rasid is specific, clear-eyed and refreshingly unwilling to dress things up when the picture is complicated.
Why listen
- Why the Middle East flare-up changes the energy conversation more than the growth outlook Rasid explains why oil is unlikely to return to pre-war levels even with stabilisation, and why energy security is quietly becoming a credible diversification theme alongside AI.
- Why the AI story is rotating, not breaking Nasdaq volatility hit its highest level since the dot-com era this week. Rasid maps out where the next wave of AI beneficiaries will likely come from, and it is not where most people are currently looking.
- Why South Korea’s tech sell-off is a concentration warning, not an exit signal Samsung disappointed and the market felt it immediately. But the structural demand story remains intact and Rasid explains where the real diversification opportunities in Asian tech actually lie.
- What Indonesia’s MSCI watch status actually means for investors Market classification and economic fundamentals are not the same thing. Rasid draws that line clearly.
It was a complicated week but this conversation makes the signals more manageable to understand. Listen now.
