NEWLY elected Member of Parliament Jamus Lim can add one more item to his already impressive curriculum vitae - this time as a council member for the Economic Society of Singapore (ESS).

Prof Lim, who is an associate professor of economics at ESSEC Business School, is among six new faces elected to ESS's 64th council at the society's annual general meeting held on Wednesday. There are 36 council members. 

Other new council members include Kent Choi, a team leader at investment bank Credit Suisse; Christina Soh, dean of Nanyang Technological University's (NTU) business school; Satoru Takahashi, head of the economics department at the National University of Singapore; Tan Swee Liang, associate professor of economics at the Singapore Management University; and Franky Tanudjojo, managing director and head of international banking at Standard Chartered Bank (Singapore).

Meanwhile, Euston Quah retained his position as president of the society. Professor Quah is Albert Winsemius Chair Professor in Economics, director of the Economic Growth Centre, and a professor at the School of Social Sciences at NTU. 

ESS is a non-profit organisation that brings together economists and other professionals with an interest in economics. It provides a platform for discussions on issues facing the Singapore economy and the region.

Council members include private-sector economists, think tank representatives in the business and financial industries, as well as senior academicians.

Founded in 1956, the ESS also has corporate members, including major banks in Singapore, investment houses and government ministries.

Its honorary fellows include Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat, Senior Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam, and former prime minister Goh Chok Tong.
