SBF signs 11 MOUs to train workers and help companies in wholesale sector grow
The agreements are expected to benefit about 700 firms and 1,000 staff
[SINGAPORE] The Singapore Business Federation (SBF) has signed 11 memorandums of understanding (MOU) that it says will help strengthen the workforce transformation ecosystem for the wholesale trade sector.
The agreements are part of its Jobs Skills Integrator for Wholesale Trade (JSIT-WST) initiative and are aimed at giving companies “end-to-end support” to bridge skills gaps and drive business growth, said SBF on Friday (Mar 13).
Over the next year, the MOUs are expected to benefit around 700 companies and about 1,000 workers in the wholesale trade sector.
Against a backdrop of global supply chain disruptions and rapid technological shifts, “Singapore can play a very important role in ensuring trust and transparency, and... to train and transform, which is what the JSIT-WST sector is about,” said Minister of State for Trade and Industry and National Development Alvin Tan.
The initiative has supported 952 companies, addressed 1,162 jobs and helped train about 650 workers, he added. Its goal is to engage more than 1,700 companies, address 1,200 jobs and reskill or upskill 1,600 workers by March 2027.
The 11 agreements span three pillars: recruitment, training and industry capability. For recruitment, SBF is partnering the National Trades Union Congress’ (NTUC) e2i, Ingeus and AKG to provide targeted job-matching services that align workforce supply with industry demand.
