[SINGAPORE] The Singapore Manufacturing Federation (SMF) will lead a new programme to help up to 50 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) take their first meaningful step towards being more sustainable.

These companies can receive complimentary carbon footprint reports under a sustainability initiative that was announced at the launch of the Great Green Run 2026 presented by CIMB Singapore.

A memorandum of understanding was signed on Tuesday (Mar 17) between SMF and the Great Green Run, with the federation on board as the event’s official sustainability partner.

In a media release, SMF said the aim is to enable SMEs to start measuring their environmental impact, which the federation described as a “critical first step” for businesses preparing for growing supply chain and regulatory expectations.

SMF’s chief sustainability officer Clara Kwan pointed out that the first barrier to sustainability for many SMEs is knowing where to begin.

“By supporting 50 SMEs with their first carbon footprint reports, we want to remove that barrier and give businesses a clear starting point,” she said.

She added that sustainability was not just a national agenda under the Singapore Green Plan 2030, but also something “practical” that SMEs can start working on today.

    Lifestyle and sustainability festival

This will be the third edition of the Great Green Run, with this year’s event – billed by the organisers as “one of the region’s greenest and most aspirational runs” – taking place on the morning of Jun 14 at the Marina Barrage.

The Singapore Environment Council is this year’s certification partner.

TriFactor founder Elvin Ting said his company is partnering event solutions and services provider Modellscape Studio to jointly organise the event, with the hope of evolving the Great Green Run into a larger lifestyle and sustainability festival.

“By bringing together lifestyle experiences and community activations, we aim to reach a broader audience and inspire more people – especially the younger generation – to play an active role in climate action,” he said.

Through this partnership, the organisers also intend to connect businesses with a network of sustainability partners in areas such as waste management and energy conservation.

Apart from the run itself, participants can also visit the Green Bazaar at the Marina Barrage, an “eco-conscious marketplace” of more than 50 stalls offering pre-loved clothes, footwear, accessories, bags, handcrafted products and more.
