LAST week, we learnt that the chief executive of foodpanda had been replaced. The food delivery platform wouldn’t comment on why its CEO Jakob Angele, who has served the company for nine years, abruptly left.
Speculation ran rife in the startup world. Many wondered if Angele’s departure had something to do with the company’s potential partial sale to Grab, the details of which were leaked last month. Both foodpanda and Angele have been keeping mum on the matter.
Foodpanda’s new CEO John Fang was most recently its chief international officer. He takes over at a shaky time. As part of parent company Delivery Hero’s plan to sell the businesses in seven South-east Asian markets, foodpanda has also laid off a number of employees.
