TO encourage the installation of electric vehicle (EV) chargers in non-landed private residences (NLPRs) such as condominiums and private apartments, Minister for Transport S Iswaran announced on Monday that the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will co-fund the installation costs of 2,000 EV chargers.

As part of the Electric Vehicle Common Charger Grant (ECCG), owners of EV chargers, such as EV charging operators or the management corporation of strata-titled developments, can apply for the LTA to cover up to 50 per cent of three upfront charger installation cost components, subject to a cap of S$4,000.

The cost components covered under the ECCG are the charging system, licensed electrical worker fees and cabling and installation costs, the last of which is subject to a S$1,000 cap.

Additionally, only the installation of chargers with smart-charging functions will be co-funded. These smart functions will allow such chargers to monitor and react to energy consumption information through adjustments to the rate of charging.

The ECCG will also only fund the installation of chargers for up to 1 per cent of residential parking lots within each NLPRs as it is only meant to catalyse the initial deployment of chargers at as many such locations as possible, LTA said.

The early adoption initiative aims to improve charger provision at NLPRs as they form a significant proportion of residences in Singapore and will serve to improve the coverage of the nation's EV charging network.

The government had earlier announced at the 2021 Committee of Supply debates that it would target the deployment of 60,000 EV charging points over the next decade, 20,000 of which will be in private premises like NLPRs.

Applications for the ECCG will open on July 29 and assessed on a first-come, first-served basis. The grant will be available until Dec 31, 2023, or until 2,000 chargers have been approved for co-funding, whichever is earlier.
