Singapore employers should manage experience, not talent

IN Singapore, 25 per cent of employees are highly engaged while 34 per cent are disengaged. The global averages are 37 per cent for highly-engaged employees and 25 per cent disengaged employees. A global study on employee behaviour conducted by Willis Towers Watson also found that almost half (48 per cent) of employees felt they needed to leave their current jobs in order to advance in their career.

Are Singaporean organisations failing to take employee engagement seriously despite the clear correlation it has with employee retention and business performance? Or are they not looking at the right levers to provide the right employee experiences to truly engage today's diverse and demanding workforce?

The silver bullet for workforce engagement has always come down to the effectiveness of leaders in an organisation. There are, of course, other factors at play, but it is alarming to learn that only half of employees in Singapore feel their leaders are effective at developing talent and leading change.
