SPH, SPH Foundation donate over S$367,000 as part of annual charity giving
SINGAPORE Press Holdings (SPH) and SPH Foundation are donating a total of S$367,359 as part of their annual charity giving this year, announced the group and its charity arm in a joint press statement on Thursday.
Of this amount, S$200,000 from SPH Foundation will go towards 20 social service agencies supported by Community Chest, the fundraising and engagement arm of the National Council of Social Service.
This will enable the agencies to continue delivering critical programmes to seniors and families in need of support, children with special needs and youth-at-risk, said SPH and SPH Foundation.
Another S$100,000 from SPH Foundation will be allocated for the Special Education Financial Assistance Scheme, which was set up to provide financial assistance for students who are Singapore citizens, from low income families and currently studying in special education Schools.
SPH Foundation will also be donating S$50,000 to The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund (STSPMF) to mark the fund's anniversary on Oct 8, 2021, which coincides with Children's Day.
Set up in 2000, STSPMF provides school pocket money to about 10,000 primary, secondary and post-secondary students from low-income families yearly.

SPH Foundation will donate S$10,000 to The Business Times Budding Artists Fund (BT BAF), which provides children and youths from financially disadvantaged backgrounds opportunities and access to the arts.
This amount will go towards BT BAF's annual fundraising and charity event Children for Children, which is held to commemorate Children's Day each year on Oct 8.
Specifically, the donation will be used to produce an online video about friendship called Love Triumphs, an accompanying book of the same title, as well as sponsorship of 1,000 goodie bags which will be distributed to primary school children when they are able to return to school safely.
As part of the event, 1,000 students from 50 schools will also receive a pair of tickets each to visit Adventure Cove Waterpark, sponsored by Resorts World Sentosa.
SPH, which publishes The Business Times, will further donate a total of S$7,359 to STSPMF and BT BAF. This amount was raised from the SPH Tribe Challenge 2021 - Heart & Sole Charity Fundraiser event, which took place from June 15 to July 14, 2021.
Organised by SPH's corporate communications and corporate social responsibility division as well as the company's sports and recreation club, Club Zest, the fundraiser saw more than 160 staff participating in a virtual charity walk. Donations were made by staff as well as matching donations from Club Zest and SPH Staff Volunteers Club.
"As the long-drawn battle against Covid-19 enters its second year, many of the vulnerable in our community continue to face disruptions to their lives brought about by the pandemic. Doing good remains an integral part of SPH's DNA, and it is our hope to do our best to alleviate the burden of the less fortunate no matter the circumstances," said Lee Boon Yang, who chairs both SPH and SPH Foundation.
