THE Land Transport Authority (LTA) will be calling for a large-scale tender for the installation of 12,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging points at public housing carparks by 2025. (see amendment note)

This tender follows from Transport Minister S Iswaran's earlier announcement that the government plans to have all Housing and Development Board towns to be ready for electric vehicles, with at least 3 charging points installed in nearly 2,000 carparks by then.

To be launched in April this year and awarded in the fourth quarter of this year, LTA said on Tuesday (Mar 29) that this tender will comprise up to 10 packages, each of them sized to cover about the same number of carparks. They will also be valid for 10 years.

Contractors who win the tender will need to install at least between 3 and 6 charging points in their designated carparks by the end of 2025.

They may choose to add more, up to a maximum of 12 EV charging points during their concession period.

The installation of charging points will begin by the first quarter of next year, said LTA.

"Tenderers will be assessed on how they plan to offer affordable, reliable and sustainable charging services. They will also be assessed on their plans to trial and implement innovative solutions to deter the hogging of charging lots, as well as maximise deployment in carparks with limited electrical capacity," said LTA.

The MyTransport.SG mobile application will also be updated with the location of these EV charging points from Tuesday, to allow drivers to find them easily.

For a start, more than 800 public charging points at over 200 locations across Singapore will be added into the mobile application.

Other information such as pricing, power rating and plug type will also be included.
