TWITTER will double the number of engineers it hires at its Asia-Pacific engineering centre to over 100 staff by 2023, the social media platform said on Tuesday (Jan 25).
The technical hires for the centre - located in the company's Asia-Pacific headquarters in Singapore - will include roles in engineering, data science, machine learning and product management.
The team will work with dedicated engineering teams around the world, and focus on core advancements to Twitter such as developing new product experiences, surfacing more personalised content, and increasing speed and reliability.
When Twitter first set up the engineering centre in 2020, it had committed to hiring 65 technical talents in Singapore.
Twitter's vice-president of Asia-Pacific and Japan Yu Sasamoto said the Asia-Pacific region is a steadfast growth engine for the company, while Singapore has been an important regional hub.
The investment into the expansion is in partnership with the Digital Industry Singapore (DISG), a joint office between the Economic Development Board, Enterprise Singapore and the Infocomm Media Development Authority.

DISG senior vice-president Ang Chin Tah said the expansion of the engineering centre is a sign of Twitter's confidence in Singapore's vibrant tech ecosystem for innovation, and in the partnership it had built up with the Republic over the years.
In 2021, Twitter also announced a year-long partnership with Singapore's government to upskill the workforce, promote digital literacy and Internet safety, and support Covid-19 communication.
