Ageism separates and divides society, and it is harmful at both the individual and the collective level. For individuals, ageism can contribute to poverty or financial insecurity in older age if they are unable to continue working and earning an income. At the societal level it can cost billions of dollars in terms of health and social services, and lost productivity.
