ELECTRIC car enthusiasts will have another option to consider when the Seres 3 makes its debut here by the end of the year.

The Business Times has learnt that Hong Seh Evolution intends to launch the battery-powered Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) in Singapore sometime around the third quarter of the year. The company currently imports electric commercial vehicles from DFSK and retails panel vans from BYD. Both are Chinese brands.

With a 163 horsepower motor, the Seres 3 will need a relatively expensive Category B Certificate Of Entitlement, but the car itself is aimed at budget-minded buyers. It has a claimed range of 300 km and can be fast-charged in half an hour.

Hong Seh Evolution announced on Wednesday (Feb 22) that it has signed an agreement with Seres Group that gives it the sole distribution rights to DFSK Commercial Vehicles and the Seres 3 in New Zealand.

It has handled the brands in Singapore since 2021, when Seres was known as Sokon. It renamed itself in July last year to make use of its best-known brand. Seres is perhaps most famous for partnering with Huawei in the tech firm’s push to enter the car market.

Hong Seh Evolution said in a statement that it will launch a refrigerated version of the DFSK EC31 electric truck here in a few months, in a move that will bring an electric option to the cold-chain logistics business.

Last year, the company put 203 DFSKs on the road, putting the brand in third place in the electric commercial vehicle market.
