Open Farm Community in Dempsey to close after 10 years
The home-grown urban farm and restaurant concept will hold its last day of service on Jan 11
[SINGAPORE] Farm-to-table restaurant Open Farm Community will cease operations after more than 10 years, with its last day of service on Jan 11.
The business announced its closure on Facebook and Instagram on Tuesday (Jan 6), without giving any reasons.
Established in June 2015, Open Farm Community was said to be Singapore’s first sustainable urban farm and restaurant concept.
Its on-site garden and eatery sit on a 35,000-sq-ft plot of land in Minden Road, bordering the Dempsey dining enclave.
Its website indicated that the business was set up by Spa Esprit Group’s founder, Cynthia Chua, to promote and champion local farming.
As one of the pioneers of farm-to-table dining, Open Farm Community cultivated fresh local vegetables and herbs in its garden for use in its dishes, on top of supplying produce to local and South-east Asian organic growers and herders.
“With herbs grown in our on-site garden and a strong focus on locally sourced ingredients, the restaurant aimed to spotlight local growers and celebrate seasonal harvests,” Open Farm Community said in its social media post announcing its closure.
Its space also hosted guided farm tours for visitors, as well as corporate events and weddings.
Besides Open Farm Community, Spa Esprit Group has developed other food and beverage concepts such as Tiong Bahru Bakery, Common Man Coffee Roasters, The Butcher’s Wife and Tippling Club.
Tiong Bahru Bakery Safari, located next to Open Farm Community, also announced on Tuesday that it will close on Jan 11.
This will leave the bakery chain with 19 outlets in Singapore, after it closed its Funan mall and Waterway Point branches in June and August 2025, respectively.
Tippling Club closed on Dec 31, 2025, after more than 16 years in business.
A number of Spa Esprit Group’s brands have since been bought over by private equity fund Titan, owned by food empire Jollibee Group.
Titan now owns and operates the Singapore businesses of Tiong Bahru Bakery and Common Man Coffee Roasters, alongside Spa Esprit Group’s grooming brands such as Strip and Browhaus. It has also invested in Open Farm Community.
Open Farm Community’s shuttering joins a growing list of closures in Singapore’s F&B industry over the past year.
This includes several high-profile exits such as Prive and Eggslut, as well as the recent downsizing of British franchise PizzaExpress Singapore and Kith Cafe.
