Marche Movenpick to close Raffles City outlet
MARCHE Movenpick will be closing its Raffles City outlet at the end of this week, The Business Times has learnt.
The decision was made to close the outlet upon the expiry of its lease, and the restaurant's last day of operations will be April 25, said Chang Hwei Fern, finance and administration manager at Marche Restaurants Singapore.
She added that the operator has no intention of closing its other four Marche restaurants here.
A spokesperson from Raffles City Singapore said the street-fronting unit will be taken over by homegrown F&B group Tipsy Collective, which houses brands including bar concept Tipsy Penguin and fusion Japanese eatery Takeshi Noodle Bar.
The new signature Tipsy concept will be the group's flagship outlet, and is slated to open in July.
Singapore's retail scene has been hit by a number of closures within the past year. A combination of reduced demand for physical retail amid the Covid-19 pandemic and high rental costs forced many to downsize or exit the local market.
Notable brands that have exited include Abercrombie & Fitch, Robinsons and Topshop. Local firms reported to have also wound up recently include Naiise, Bakerzin, Home-Fix and Sportslink.
