Tokyo: Shares extend gains

[TOKYO] Tokyo stocks ended higher Tuesday with Japan's major banks extending gains, after the benchmark index hit a three-month high.
Tokyo's benchmark Nikkei 225 index, which on Monday closed above 17,000 for the first time since the end of May, added 0.26 per cent, or 44.35 points, to finish at 17,081.98.
The broader Topix index of all first-section shares gained 0.65 per cent, or 8.73 points, to 1,352.58.
