Training institute the flagship project of Singapore-Myanmar ties
Yangon, Myanmar
THE setting up of a vocational training institute in Myanmar is Singapore's way of making a "meaningful" contribution to the country's development and progress, said Acting Education Minister (Higher Education and Skills) Ong Ye Kung on Thursday.
Mr Ong, who is in the delegation accompanying Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on his three-day official visit to Myanmar, told the Singapore media that the country is going through a special period in its history: "There are a lot of transitional issues, the democratisation process, as well as the liberalising of its economy to be more market-oriented."
