S$280m in GST cash vouchers to benefit 1.4 million citizens
Low-income households to get one-off payment to cope with tough times
THE government will give a one-off Goods and Services Tax (GST) cash voucher to low-income households to help them cope with the difficult current economic conditions.
This "special payment" will provide up to S$200 for eligible recipients, said Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat in Parliament on Thursday.
In all, the initiative will cost the government an extra S$280 million in 2016, with some 1.4 million Singaporeans standing to benefit.
