Beam Suntory marks SG50 with donation
Singapore
A CHEQUE for S$70,500 was presented to the Business Times Budding Artists Fund by the world's third largest premium spirits company Beam Suntory at a commemorative five-course private dinner on Sept 30 to celebrate SG50.
The money was raised through an auction of three prized single malts - the Bowmore 50 Year Old, the Auchentoshan 50 Year Old, and the Yamazaki 50 Year Old. Housing the trio of whiskies was a walnut wood cabinet, designed specially for the event by award-winning local designer Nathan Yong. The cabinet, inspired by the timeless aesthetic of whisky barrels, also housed a limited-edition Baccarat Harmonie crystal decanter and tumblers. While four cabinets were produced, only one was put up for auction. The winning bid was for S$141,100, half of which is being donated to the Business Times Budding Artists Fund, which enables disadvantaged young people to develop their artistic talent.
