Rise of US$ not hurting US as feared: UBS
Export trends have shifted and US exporters have higher market share now, says economist
Singapore
THE strength of the greenback will not weaken US economic growth as commonly feared, given that export trends in the G3 countries have shifted in recent years, a senior economist at UBS said on Friday.
"American (exporters) now have a higher market share than they did before the crisis in both Europe and Japan," said Paul Donovan, global economist at UBS, at a client event. "American companies have been disciplined on cost. They haven't changed their price of their products in euros. They haven't change the prices of their products in yen."
