Singapore startup plays catch-up in mobile space
RecordTV's new app has risen to the top of the entertainment category in the local Apple App Store and Google Play store; tackles monetisation and expansion
Singapore
FOUR years after startup RecordTV took MediaCorp on in a legal battle and won David-and-Goliath style, the service has launched a mobile app - David 2.0, if you will. Even as it pockets its slings post-lawsuit, RecordTV will have to face down the larger giants of monetisation and expansion.
Its app - called InstantTV - which was launched earlier in October, has since risen to the top of the entertainment category in the local Apple App Store and the Google Play store. InstantTV allows users to record free-to-air channels and watch them instantly on their smartphones and tablets. On top of the local free offerings, the app also offers access to foreign channels such as Bloomberg, NHK World and Arirang.
