LEADER of the Opposition Pritam Singh on Wednesday slammed the petrol duty hike as an "ill-timed bolt from the blue", as he kicked off the first day of this year's Budget debate in Parliament.
The Workers' Party chief also called for greater transparency in government spending and suggested an independent office to scrutinise the Budget.
