SUBSCRIBERS to The Business Times can now share stories on the BT website with their colleagues, friends and family who are non-subscribers through a new gifting option.

Such articles would include a variety of scoops exclusive to BT, market analyses, expert commentary, and opinion pieces from industry leaders.

There is no limit to the number of articles that subscribers can gift to others.

The new feature will let more users sample BT's award-winning journalism before deciding to buy a recurring subscription.

Audience and Memberships editor Chan Cheow Pong said he hopes the new feature will encourage subscribers who have enjoyed BT's journalism to introduce it to others.

"BT's loyal subscribers appreciate high quality business journalism. We are thankful for their support through the years, and we hope the new feature will prove useful for sharing pieces with like-minded individuals," he added.

Here's a simple three-step guide for subscribers who wish to share a paywalled story:

1. Log in to your BT subscriber's account using the button at the top right-hand corner of the site.

2. Once you're at a subscriber-only story of your choice, click on the "Gift This Story" button above the headline (see below).

3. A pop-up window will appear. Simply click on "Copy Link" or use any of the four other options available to share the article via WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter or email.

The shareable link is unique to the subscriber using it. After receiving the link, non-subscribers only need to log in or create a free registered account to access the article.

Registration is free. Readers can register via a one-click process using an existing Google or Facebook login or by creating an account with their email address.

Registered users also get additional benefits, including free daily and weekly newsletters on the most important business topics, and notifications for special subscription offers. They can open up to two subscriber-only articles they receive a month. Links to gifted stories expire in 90 days.

BT digital editor Christopher Lim said the move is one of several efforts to increase awareness of BT's quality journalism as the publication grows its subscription product.

"As part of BT's 45th anniversary celebrations, we want to bring the best of BT to more users. What better way to do so than by allowing our journalism to speak for itself?"
