Small box, big bucks
With sales of its set-top boxes growing at a phenomenal rate, Vodoke has set its sights to be a $1 billion firm, reports JOYCE HOOI
THERE was a time when Michael Toh knew what he would be doing at 8pm on a certain day every week. He would be hightailing it to an MRT station, in order to catch the latest episode of The X-Files by 8.30pm at home.
Today, however, he heads up Vodoke, a company that makes sure that you will never have to hightail it anywhere to watch anything ever again. His set-top box firm wants to redefine not just how people watch television, but what "television" even means.
To be sure, this is change that is already on the horizon, independent of Vodoke. It lurks on the edges of consumers' habits, as people get snatches of what used to be television content off other screens, from smartphones to laptops.
