Singapore Budget 2018: Singapore to build innovative economy, improve urban sustainability
THE Singapore Budget will build on its strong position as a well-connected country in four areas, Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat said on Monday.
Firstly, the country will develop a more vibrant and innovative economy, seizing opportunities beyond Singapore using technology.
Secondly, Singapore will build a "smart, green and liveable" city, improving urban sustainability, and enabling the economy to be more carbon-efficient.
Thirdly, Singapore will continue to foster a caring and cohesive society, strengthening social safety nets in the face of demographic challenges such as ageing.
Finally, Singapore will continue to plan ahead for a fiscally sustainable and secure future. The country will prepare for longer-term shifts that will require more resources, such as in developing new infrastructure.
Mr Heng said this preparation will be done in a period of greater geopolitical uncertainty and increasing tax competition.
