Japan's Nikkei closes lower before central bank decisions

[TOKYO] Japan's main Nikkei index closed lower on Wednesday with investors cautious ahead of the US Federal Reserve's interest rate decision and the Bank of Japan's policy announcement this week.
The Nikkei 225 index ended down 0.57 per cent or 131.01 points at 22,843.12, while the broader Topix index edged up 0.19 per cent or 3.22 points to close at 1,665.90.
