Plan to transform Singapore logistics sector will add 2,000 PMET jobs: Iswaran
THE Singapore government has unveiled a blueprint that hopes to create 2,000 new white-collar jobs and add billions of dollars in value to the economy's logistics sector.
At the groundbreaking of JTC Logistics Hub@Gul on Wednesday, Minister for Industry S Iswaran launched the logistics industry transformation map aimed at transforming the sector and retaining Singapore's position as a global logistics hub.
Companies will get help to transform and grow through increased productivity and innovation, giving them a chance to scale up and expand overseas.
Through this transformation, the logistics industry is expected to achieve a value-add of S$8.3 billion and introduce 2,000 new PMET (professionals, managers, executives and technicians) jobs over the next five years, said Mr Iswaran.
The plan will be driven by the Economic Development Board, International Enterprise Singapore, JTC Corporation, SPRING Singapore and Workforce Singapore, in partnership with industry players, unions, and trade associations.
