SNB open to IMF suggestion of foreign currency QE
Zurich
THE Swiss National Bank (SNB) is considering a form of foreign currency quantitative easing, as suggested by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
"What the IMF is recommending is a kind of pre-announced asset purchase programme," SNB Alternate Governing Board member Thomas Moser said in Bern on Monday. Mr Moser said that the IMF's policy proposals are among "options that we're looking at". Swiss economic growth is slowing and consumer prices are set to decline this year and next after the SNB's removal of its currency cap sent the franc soaring against the euro.
